Please note: Priority is given to families in need of full-week care. If you are waitlisted for partial-week care, we will accept students on an ongoing basis. We will notify you as soon as space becomes available.

Safety Protocols

The procedures outlined comply with the Center for Disease Control guidelines for the State of California and are aligned with the Carlsbad Unified School District. We will continually monitor guidelines, update these procedures, and inform you of any changes.   

Signing In

We will check temperatures and conduct health screenings daily. Students or employees with temperatures 100.4 degrees will not be admitted.

Parents are required wear masks at drop off and pick up.

Drop off and pick up is intended to be brief and parents are asked not to enter classrooms. Social distancing is required.

Handwashing is highly recommended for all family members prior to drop off and when they return home.

Class Sizes & Social Distancing

We will follow CDC guidelines and update our protocols with their requirements.

Students will only socialize within their designated group and will not intermingle with the other students at Kids Care.

Group sizes will be limited based on guidelines and will not exceed 14 students per group

Per CDC regulations as of July 30th, classrooms are set up with socially distant student workspaces, 6 feet apart. Classroom, circle time and other activities are designed to be socially distant. 

Face Coverings Policy

Students, staff, and visitors must wear face coverings when onsite, unless they are exempt per state guidelines, or participating in one of the activities defined by the California Department of Public Health.

This includes while in the classroom, waiting to enter campus, on
school grounds, when leaving school.

Students may remove masks when socially distanced during lunch, snack time, and outdoor activities.

Snack & Lunches

Students are required to bring a sack lunch and a bottle of water. Please note that school cafeterias are not open. We will provide a morning and afternoon snack. Due to Covid-19, water fountains are available for bottle refills only.

Weather permitting, students will have lunch outdoors.

Bathrooms

To reduce contact between groups, bathrooms will be designated by group. When possible, groups will have their own dedicated bathroom. Alternatively, groups will have dedicated sinks and stalls.

Bathrooms will be sanitized every two hours, paying close attention to the most commonly touched areas.

COVID-19 Mitigation & Prevention Measures

What measures will be implemented on campus to ensure the safety of staff and students?

Cleaning and Disinfecting:
Kids Care/SOAR will take essential actions to create a physical environment that promotes student and staff safety through established protocols and procedures. These will include daily disinfection of areas used by students and staff, and focus on high-touch surfaces such as door handles and restrooms during the day.

Face Coverings:
As of July 17, 2020, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requires all staff members to wear face coverings or face shields and requires all students in grades three and above to wear face coverings or face shields. Students in grades two and lower are strongly encouraged by CDPH to wear face coverings or face shields.

Hygiene:
Hygiene practices will be reviewed regularly with students. We will teach and reinforce washing hands, avoiding contact with one’s eyes, nose, and mouth, and covering coughs and sneezes among students and staff. We are adding hand sanitizer stations to high traffic areas on all campuses. Kids Care/SOAR will continue to follow the California Department of Public Health guidelines and continue to collaborate with the San Diego County Public Health Agency for current guidelines on health measures.

Temperature Checks:
At this time, temperature checks are required and will be administered at specific entry points for all students and staff. If a student or staff member has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or more, they will not be allowed onto the campus. If someone exhibits symptoms during the day, we will establish separate areas for them to wait to be picked up.

What will happen if a student or staff member develops a fever or symptoms while on campus?

If at any time during the school day a staff member develops a fever on campus, the staff member will be sent home.

A child who is ill and exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 will be isolated and supervised in a separate area until parents arrive to pick them up.

Will they be required to be tested for COVID-19?

Testing will not be required. However, symptomatic or sick staff members and students will not be allowed to return until they meet one of the following:

  • Proof of negative viral test result (PCR only) if both fever and symptoms are gone (without fever-reducing meds) for 72 hours; or
  • 10 days from the day symptom(s) first appeared, AND improved symptoms and no fever (or fever reducing meds) for the last 72 hours; or
  • A licensed MD/DO/NP/PA (who manages the condition) confirms in writing the diagnosis of a chronic condition, and that the symptoms are unrelated to COVID-19.

Will parents, students, and staff be made aware if someone on campus tests positive for COVID-19?
Yes, following California Department of Public Health we will document/track incidents of possible exposure and notify local health officials, staff and families, immediately of any positive case of COVID-19 while maintaining confidentiality, as required under FERPA and state law related to the privacy of educational records.

What happens if a staff member or student tests positive? Will Kids Care/SOAR be closed for 14 days? Is there a procedure in place for quarantining in the event that a person on campus tests positive or in the case that a family member of a student or staff personnel tests positive?

In each instance, we will work with public health on whether a decision needs to be made to close. We will review context, contacts, and exposure to others to inform necessary next steps.

When a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 and has exposed others, we will implement the following steps:

  • In consultation with the local public health department, we will decide whether the closure is warranted, including the length of time necessary, based on the risk level as determined by the local public health officer.
  • Additional areas of the school visited by the COVID-19 positive individual may need to be closed temporarily for cleaning and disinfection.
  • Maintain regular communications with the local public health department.

What if a family member that lives in the same home with a student or staff member tests positive for COVID? Staff and students who have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 should stay home and monitor their health.

Full-Day Care

Our after-school program offers academic support in line with your student’s hybrid learning schedule. Once the school day is done, students engage in outdoor play, STEAM activities, and enriching experiences.

What Should I Know About Registering?

Enrollment is only valid for one year. Every student needs to re-register every year.

The $75 account registration fee is an annual payment to process and set-up your account. It does not go towards your Kids Care or SOAR payment.

Registration fees are non-refundable.

It takes three business days to process registration before your student can attend Kids Care. You will receive an email notification with the start date.

What Should I Do to Cancel Care?

We require a 15-day written notice on all cancellations. Please email your notice to KidsCare@CarlsbadEd.org.

Can I Split the Expenses on a Single Account?

No. If you want to split the expenses of student care, each person being billed needs to set up their own account and pay the $75.00 account registration fee per student.

Is Kids Care Open on School Breaks?

Kids Care does offer Holiday Care on days when school is closed for breaks or to observe federal holidays. Holiday Care requires a separate registration, found online.

Kids Care is closed on select holidays. Review the Kids Care calendar for those dates.
