About

Every job requires different skills. Excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills are important. We also look for people with the ability to manage and accomplish multiple projects and work assignments while meeting deadlines. Candidates will receive volunteer hours or credit in conjunction with their school’s internship agreement. Hours per week and schedule may vary.

Tutoring Internship

Position Description

Interns for our Elevate program will work in Carlsbad Middle Schools 1 -2 days a week offering math tutoring. We are looking for responsible and committed students who can lead small group tutoring.

When providing tutoring to students you will:

Work in a small group (1:4 ratio)

Develop mutual trust and respect

Focus on the student’s development

Tasks

Model the problem solving process.

Help the student solve problems, rather than giving answers.

Share about your study habits and experience.

Be available for students to come to you with questions or seeking advice.

Provide feedback to the Program Coordinator on the tutor experience as a part of the Elevate

Time Commitment

The time commitment for an Elevate math tutor is approximately 1-2 hours per week from October through June. We ask that tutors commit to interning for at least one school year. The tutor commits to attending:

Mondays 4 – 5pm and/or Thursdays 3 – 4pm.

Initial training with Program Coordinator (1 hour).

Tutors will need to be responsive to emails throughout the commitment. Please communicate promptly if you will be unable to attend.
