Event Honoree

JR Phillips

JR Phillips is a 25-year Carlsbad resident, Carlsbad Unified School District parent, community serviceman, and relentless advocate for student opportunities and educational excellence in Carlsbad’s public schools.

In his seven-year tenure on Carlsbad Educational Foundation’s Board of Directors, the Foundation saw four consecutive years of granting more than $1 million to Carlsbad Unified School District. We continue to grant more than $1 million every year since the milestone was reached in 2015.

Under JR’s leadership as board chairman, Carlsbad Educational Foundation navigated Covid-19 pandemic challenges and adapted our childcare program, enrichment classes, and after-school activities to help students and families when schools were closed.

JR’s service extends to other community organizations, including the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors where he serves on the Executive, Government Affairs, and Education Committees. He is also a longtime member of the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club where he became a proud co-founder and co-chair of Carlsbad Brewfest, which has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars back into the North County Community since 2014. Additionally, JR worked with fellow residents and community partners to establish the Bikes for the Barrio program that provides bikes to children in need. He is also an active member of the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation.

We are thankful for JR’s contributions and service to our students, schools, and community!
