Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

High School Senior

Must attend high school in the Carlsbad Unified School District.

Two Letters of Recommendation

One letter must be from a teacher/instructor and the second from a school counselor, supervisor, youth leader, or another adult.

Minimum 3.0 G.P.A.

Copy of unofficial transcript from AERIES is required.

One-Page Essay

Describe your educational plan and how participation in a program supported by the Carlsbad Educational Foundation has impacted your educational goals.

Plan to attend a two-year or four-year college or university in the U.S.

Essay Guidelines:

Format: One-page, 12-point font, double-spaced, MLA format. Please include your name in upper left corner.

Your essay should address the following: Describe your involvement in any STEAM, Music or Innovative program(s) funded by the Carlsbad Educational Foundation and how your involvement has influenced your long-term educational and professional goals (refer to chart above for a complete list of CEF funded programs).

You should also consider and include the following topics in your essay:

  • What is your field of study and why did you choose it?
  • Awards, honors, and/or merits received during high school.
  • Why do you believe you deserve to receive this scholarship?
  • Is there anything else you would like the committee to know?

Additional Information:

 Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF) scholarships are intended to encourage students to pursue careers in their selected college fields.

We award fifteen $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors in the Carlsbad Unified School District who are pursuing secondary education with a two-year or four-year college or university and have been involved in a program funded by CEF. Two of the scholarships, sponsored by ViaSat, will be awarded specifically to students who have participated in Science Olympiad and five of the scholarships will be designated specifically to need-based applicants.
