Enrollment

I have already registered for the fall, does that guarantee my spot?

No. If you have already registered for student care for the fall, you are only guaranteed your spot when we return to a traditional in-person school model.
The current 5-day, in-person, modified schedule, is not the traditional model, and you must re-register for an updated schedule.

What should I know about registering?

Enrollment is only valid for one year. Every student needs to re-register every year.

The $75 account registration fee is an annual payment to process and set-up your account. It does not go towards your Kids Care or SOAR payment.

Registration fees are non-refundable.

It takes three business days to process registration before your student can attend SOAR. You will receive an email notification with the start date.

Can I split the expenses on a single account?

No. If you want to split the expenses of student care, each person being billed needs to set up their own account and pay the $75.00 account registration fee per student.

How do I update my program offering or schedule?

Families who have already registered will log onto the parent portal and register for the new schedule. Space will be limited.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

No. Due to the increased cost of serving our students with lower ratios and increased academic support we are unable to offer a sibling discount. 

Is financial aid available?

Yes. Families must complete our financial aid application found here. We accept financial aid applications throughout the school year and awards are based on available funds.

Why don’t you have weekly rates?
A monthly commitment is required for consistent groups and consistent student experience. This supports the safety of our staff and students.
If my student care needs change, how do I switch my schedule?

Approval for requested schedule changes is dependent on space availability. We require a 15-day written notice on all requested scheduled changes. You may login to your parent portal to initiate schedule changes. Please email your notice to [email protected].

Where do I update my account information?

Information may be updated on the parent portal.

Do you have payment plan options?

Yes. Financial options will be available. Please email [email protected] for more information.

I no longer need care, is the $75 registration fee refundable?

No. Registration fees are non-refundable. The $75 registration fee covers the entire school year, including Holiday Care and Summer Adventure. We are hopeful you will return for any of these programs.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a 14-day written notice on all cancellations. Please email [email protected] to initiate a cancellation request.

Programming

How does my child get to Kids Care after school?

TK/Kindergarteners are picked up from school dismissal by a Kids Care staff member. 1st-5th graders walk to the Kids Care classroom when they are dismissed from school. Please see school site directory for site contact information and room numbers. 

What will my child do from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. in the morning, before school?

For the health and safety of our students and staff and to maximize social distancing efforts, before school care will take place outdoors.

Families must arrive between 7:30 – 7:45. At 7:45 students will take part in an outdoor socially-distant active activity until they are dismissed for class. We are excited to get students moving in the morning and hope this contributes to a great start their day. Students should prepare by dressing warmly.

If I enroll in before school care from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. can I drop off my child at anytime?

Due to a limited number of students and staff, children must arrive to care between 7:30-7:45 am. With parents unable to be on campus, staff will only be at the check-in area until 7:45 am. At this time there will not be enough staff to go back and forth to the check-in area for late arrivals. Please plan accordingly to arrive on time.

What will my student do during school hours and after-school hours?

How will students be grouped?

Our goal is to group students by grade to provide the best social and academic environment. Please note that this is dependent on enrollment and grades may be combined.

Is Kids Care open on school breaks?

Kids Care does offer Holiday Care on days when school is closed for breaks or to observe federal holidays. Holiday Care requires a separate registration, found online.

Kids Care is closed on select holidays. Review the Kids Care calendar for those dates.

Is SOAR open on school breaks?
SOAR is not open when school is closed for breaks or to observe federal holidays.

Safety Measures

Covid-19 Mitigation & Prevention Measures

What measures will be implemented on campus to ensure the safety of staff and students?

Cleaning and Disinfecting:

Kids Care/SOAR will take essential actions to create a physical environment that promotes student and staff safety through established protocols and procedures. These will include daily disinfection of areas used by students and staff and focus on high-touch surfaces.

Face Coverings:

All students and staff are required to wear masks indoors.

Hygiene:

Hygiene practices are reviewed regularly with students and staff. We teach and reinforce washing hands, avoiding contact with one’s eyes, nose, and mouth, and covering coughs and sneezes. We have hand sanitizers in every room and high-traffic areas at every site. Kids Care/SOAR will continue to follow the California Department of Public Health guidelines in collaboration with the San Diego County Public Health Agency for current guidelines on health measures.

What will happen if a staff member or student develops Covid-19 symptoms while on campus?

If a staff member develops symptoms relevant to the Covid-19 virus, the staff member will be sent home. If a student develops symptoms, the parent or guardian will be notified, and the student will be isolated and supervised in a separate area until he or she can be picked up.

Will they be required to be tested for COVID-19?

Testing will not be required. However, symptomatic staff members and students will not be allowed to return until they meet one of the following:

Proof of negative viral test result (PCR only) if both fever and symptoms are gone (without fever-reducing meds) for 72 hours; or

10 days from the day symptom(s) first appeared, AND improved symptoms and no fever (or fever reducing meds) for the last 72 hours; or

A licensed MD/DO/NP/PA (who manages the condition) confirms in writing the diagnosis of a chronic condition, and that the symptoms are unrelated to COVID-19.

Will parents, students, and staff be made aware if someone on campus tests positive for COVID-19?

Yes, following California Department of Public Health, we document incidents of possible exposure and notify local health officials, staff and families, immediately of any positive case of Covid-19. We maintain confidentiality, as required under FERPA and state law related to the privacy of educational records.

Will Kids Care/SOAR be closed for 14 days if a student or staff member tests positive for Covid-19?

What if a family member of a student or staff tests positive?

In each instance, we will work with public health on whether we need to close. We will review context, contacts, and exposure to others to inform necessary next steps.

When a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 and has exposed others, we will implement the following steps:
• In consultation with the local public health department, we will decide whether the closure is warranted, including the length of time necessary, based on the risk level as determined by the local public health officer.
• Additional areas of the school visited by the COVID-19 positive individual may need to be closed temporarily for cleaning and disinfection.
• Maintain regular communications with the local public health department.

What if a family member that lives in the same home with a student or staff member tests positive for Covid-19?

Staff and students who have recently had close contact with a person with Covid-19 should stay home and monitor their health.

 

Miscellaneous

My child is enrolled at a non-CUSD school. Can they enroll in student care?

We are not currently enrolling non-CUSD students. If you are interested in being added to our waitlist, please email [email protected].

My child is enrolled at Seaside Academy. Can they enroll in Kids Care?

The student care daily schedule (sample schedule posted online) will follow the distance learning schedule released by CUSD and focus on academic support during the morning hours. All students will be required to complete academic work from 8 am – 1 pm.

Will lunch and snacks be provided?

Lunches are provided by the school cafeterias for students who would like one. Students will be required to bring a water bottle. Water fountains are available for bottle refill only. Kids Care will provide an afternoon snack for students.

Are Chromebooks provided?

Students are encouraged to bring your CUSD assigned Chromebooks. Limited number of Chromebooks are available onsite for students as needed.

Are headphones provided?

No. Students are required to bring their own headphones.
