Algebra 1
Course Description: Algebra 1 is the first course of a four-year sequence for those students who plan to attend college. Students will meet challenging course standards through varied learning experiences designed to develop their computational skills and conceptual understanding of mathematics. Students will also acquire skills in problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and mathematical communication. Technology skills will be emphasized throughout the course. Algebra 1 is designed to help gain mastery of linear, exponential, and quadratic functions.
New to Common Core is the addition of the 8 Mathematical Practices:
- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
- Model with mathematics.
- Use appropriate tools strategically.
- Attend to precision.
- Look for and make use of structure.
- Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
*Middle school students will not receive high school credit for this course.
